Here’s my Action Park story…even though I just did a whole page about it, it’s good to have an example here.
So I went on the Cannonball Falls slide and was racing my sister who was on the other slide. I went down a small drop and just started gaining speed like crazy! Finally I hit the flat portion at the end and was spat out 10 or so feet above the water. I fell right on my side into the pool and thought I broke my arm! It was just a short lived pain though. Falling 10 feet into a pool when you’re still in a flat position isn’t much fun!
I survived Action Park!!
My mom just asked me about this tonight, wondering if it was still open so we could take my kids to it since she loved it so much she took me and my sister twice back in the 80′s. We were both sad to learn it had been sold and then shut down, but we are left with some great memories, many of which were jogged by your fantastic tribute page.
My mom broke her wrist on one of the slides, but it was just a hairline fracture that pains her when it’s going to rain. My sister suffered a bigger mishap on the Geronimo slide (I believe – I must have been between 8 and 10 years old when we visited) – they had several lanes of slides and a lifeguard at the top was spraying the slides with a garden hose. Well, the lifeguard didn’t spray enough on my sister’s slide and she ended up coming to a screeching halt halfway down the slide and getting some massive road rash on her chin, arm and leg. A trip to first aid took care of things and we went on with our day.
My only truly odd memory was of the Tarzan Swings. I chickened out and couldn’t bring myself to do it, but I stood in line forever watching people doing it. I had to ask my parents later why guys were yelling to this one woman, “Show us more pink!!” – I knew it was something dirty, but it made no sense to me at that point in life.
I remember the loop, too, but I don’t ever remember it being open. It seemed like the park was always adding on and constructing something new!
Thanks for the ride down memory lane!
