The Power Surge is a completely original ride by Zamperla, a company that normally knocks off already designed amusement rides and is best known for their numerous kiddie rides. Power Surge shows that Zamperla can make some pretty wild rides and should in fact continue to churn out completely original models.
Power Surge consists of a large 6 armed claw like wheel with 12, two person cars on the ends (one on each side of the arm.) The seats are able to rotate horizontally. The claw is attached to a long support that can rise up to a 65-70 degree angle or so. The top part of the arm can rotate, spinning the claw in mid air.
The Ride
Once everyone is in, the support arm begins to rise into the air. As it rises the claw begins to spin at a moderate speed. Once at it’s top height, the cars are thrown off balance enough to complete various flips. The support begins to rotate sending the claw around in circles. The combined motion of everything isn’t exactly disorienting but the cars flip like crazy due to it. Sometimes the car will even hang upsidedown for prolonged amounts of time which is surprisingly fun.
Other Info
The Power Surge is a very popular ride here in the States, I’m not sure if it is in Europe though. Some places that I know have or have had the Power Surge are Astroland, Knoebels, Reithoffer Shows has a traveling version, Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, NJ and I’m sure plenty of other places have one. It’s a very easy ride to move and makes a huge impact on the midway with it’s imposing appearance.

Hey Dave, when the Power Surge was at Casino Pier in Seaside Heights New Jersey, I made a bet with the ride operator that I could ride this over 100 times for the summer season. He took me up on that and got me on the ride when there was seats available. Sure enough I was successful in doing over 100 times.
